Low Price Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (White)

First of all, I tried installing Eeebuntu 4 beta.. but it has a lot of driver issues; namely, the wireless LAN wasn't working. I'm fine with using Windows on this because unfortunately it has the advantage of working out of the box. It comes with Windows 7 Starter, but I entered the anytime upgrade key and all was better. If you mess up the operating system and/or bootloader like I did, you might realize that the netbook has no DVD drive from which to load the recovery DVD. Now don't go out and buy an external DVD drive, because Microsoft's "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" can make a bootable flash drive using an ISO image of the install disk that can repair the operating system.

The keyboard bends down slightly when I type on it, but I don't mind that. With the full size shift key, I chose this 'board over the other 1005PE and whatnot. I have long fingers, and the keys are closer together, but it's easy to get used to. I tried to remove a key but stopped after applying so much pressure. So, I really don't know if they are removable. The screen is small, but it is by no means hard to read. The touch pad is nice and smooth. The left and right click aren't separated, but they still work OK. I've noticed that the right click clicks weirdly sometimes. o.O At a full charge, Windows seems to report to me 6 to 10 hours of battery life. I haven't used it a lot yet, but it seems like it'll last me 6 to 8 hours on a full charge. The battery charger seems to be the most error-prone part in other reviews, so hopefully it doesn't die on me. I'm taking that risk because I like this computer! I saw that I got the problematic one, the EXA0901XH. It does ok while powering the netbook alone, but it gets rather hot while charging.

The netbook boots up quickly, probably faster than my desktop. Firefox doesn't take a long time to start up. With some add-ons, I have also minimized the screen space that it takes up. It runs smoothly, and.. So far, I've had no lag problems at all. It can play YouTube videos without lag, including full screen. It even plays Maple Story, with a lower than 60 but OK framerate which reminds me of computers with slightly older graphic cards. I haven't tried playing emulators, but judging by the device's capabilities I doubt they would have any problems.

After about 6 months of looking, this is the netbook that I chose. I don't see why it's so unpopular compared to the other 2010 Eee PCs. It's white, which I think looks much better than black; it has a matte screen, it's the least expensive, and it has all the important specifications. In addition to a matte screen, the casing has a matte finish. I originally wanted the glossy finish, but it doesn't matter because they both look good. I'm excited about taking this with me. It is a nice, tiny PC.Get more detail about Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (White).

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life Right now

Very good equipment. Bright screen, with good definition. XP runs really well (programs open fast and processing time is really fair), but would prefer to have windows 7. Battery really lasts!

The only problem I realized later on is that the wifi is not really good (connection lost more frequently and with lower signal detected when compared to my HP notebook).Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life.

Save Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-BK 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Black)

Ordered this netbook because I was looking for an n450 powered device akin to the 1005 line.

Well let me say that I'm glad I didn't spend the extra 60 bucks. This computer has everything the 1005 line has minus bluetooth (honestly, I don't think I've ever met a person who uses bluetooth) battery life (11 vs 14 hours, real world 8 vs 11 hours), harddrive space (160GB versus 250GB which is a negligible difference), display (matte screen vs glossy screen equal resolution), wireless (g vs n) and finish (matte vs glossy).

Now, that seems like a lot of differences, but all of them, save battery life, are pointless bells and whistles that do nothing to affect the performance of the computer (akin to putting a moon roof and a spoiler on a car and jacking the price up).

Battery life is the only worthwhile difference between the two models (maybe worth 60-80 bucks depending on what your plans are). It would have been nice to have wireless n, but most users probably won't notice a difference.

As far as the screen and finish go, I think matte is actually an advantage. A glossy screen is exhausting to read on in bright light. I'll never understand what the recent obsession with glossy screens is; they are murderous to the eyes. As for a glossy finish, your netbook will look like a piece of well worn packing tape after 15 minutes (big greasy fingerprints everywhere!).

I've heard a lot of people complain that the keyboard of this model feels spongy, but I think they must be typing with mallets, because the 1001p keyboard feels like every other laptop I've ever used. It does not depress in the corners or anywhere for that matter and I'm a fairly hard typist.

The first thing I did when I got this computer was clean install windows 7 ultimate and office 2003 (office 2007 being an unholy abomination; a grievous injustice perpetrated upon all of mankind). So far the netbook has been breezing through applications on 1GB ram with nary a stutter. I would highly recommend upgrading from the absolute garbage windows 7 starter, it doesn't even let you change the wallpaper and is solely intended to annoy you. Furthermore, you might as well get rid of all the asus software (it periodically generates pop-up ads asking if you want to pay for something) and just install the drivers for lan and wireless, you really don't need the others.

In conclusion (ah, high school english where would I be without you) The 1001P is a solid, surprisingly powerful little netbook with excellent design. It is more than adequate for most computing tasks short of video editing. And for 280$? Are you kidding me? How can you complain?Get more detail about Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-BK 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Black).

Order ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life

I purchased this netbook on September 2009 from Amazon.com. As a college student who has to constantly relocate between classes on a huge campus, I love the lightness of this netbook and the battery life. However, like many others, my AC adapter has failed after only about 3 months of usage. I called the Amazon customer service and the only answer they could give me was that since it's past 30 days, I should go ahead and contact ASUS for their 1 year warranty claimed on the product page. Great! So I called the ASUS customer service number (888-678-3688) and was able to speak to a customer service representative who told me that I was calling the wrong department and they were not responsible for the Eee series. Then he transferred me to the "right" department where I waited for about 20 min on the line and then eventually hung up because I just didn't think anyone was going to pick up phone.

So what's the lesson learned here? First of all, though this netbook has a 4 star rating on Amazon, how many of those 5 star ratings were written when the users just receive the products? And how long do you want this netbook to last for you? 30 days? 1 year? It is already apparent that the AC adapter of this netbook is very poorly made and I would highly recommend you not to take a risk. Because 1.It's likely that the adapter would fail after 30 days of purchase, and then you are in the situation where you have to deal with ASUS customer service. 2. If the adapter fails in such a short time, it would probably fail quite easily after the 1 year warranty.

In conclusion, I would probably never purchase electronics from Amazon again (I had much better experiences with BestBuy and the Apple store regarding the warranty issue). I loved Amazon's customer service when it's about other issues (products not arriving on time, wrong item..etc) but seriously, I think for electronics, what I am looking for is not a product that can only work for 30 days but something that's stable and comes with a clear and good customer service. So far, Amazon has yet to provide this level of service and I have learned my lesson the hard way. Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life.
