Save ASUS 7" Eee 8GB PC Netbook Computer with Windows XP - Galaxy Black

This netbook was good overall I suppose but I had so much difficulty typing. Only being 86% the size of a normal keyboard really threw me and even after 2 months of using this product my fingers still had trouble. The desktop stretched which meant you had to move the entire screen at times to read a single web page or word document.Get more detail about ASUS 7" Eee 8GB PC Netbook Computer with Windows XP - Galaxy Black.

Cheapest ASUS Eee PC 1002HA 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, XP Home) Brushed Aluminized

I bought this 1002HA about 14 months ago, just to have on hand as an emergency backup PC, something to plug into my monitor and use for net shopping parts and whatnot to get my desktop back up and running, should that desktop ever blow a gasket. All I do is haul it out of the carry case once per week, turn on my MS bluetooth mouse, plug in the LAN cable (I'm not a wireless net guy), top up the charge on it and my Plextor PX-610U slimline burner, update the minimal software I have installed (McAfee Security Suite, Firefox, Thunderbird), then put it back in the case. Easy duty for a netbook, so I don't have any complaints. The N330 is now available, so I'd get that instead if I was buying now.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1002HA 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, XP Home) Brushed Aluminized.

Cheap Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch White Netbook - 6 Cell Battery

The Lenovo S10-2 netbook is an excellent netbook. In my job (I am a technology support specialist), I have purchased about 50 netbooks in the past year for employees. The Lenovo S10, S10-2, and S12 netbooks are all performing exceptionally well.

I have recently upgraded all of them to Windows7 Pro, and they work even better than they did with Windows XP.

The only recommendation I can make for better performance is to also upgrade them (as I would do with ANY netbook) to 2GB of RAM. It is a simple upgrade to replace the 1GB of RAM with 2GB...there is an access panel on the bottom of the netbook that is easily removed with a screwdriver, then the 1GB easily snaps out and a 2GB is easily snapped into place. Be sure to seat the new RAM firmly.

The netbooks can run nearly all software that I run on a regular sized laptop or on a desktop. My employees LOVE them! The netbooks are so light weight, and very portable because of their size, and yet pack a lot of power and performance.Get more detail about Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch White Netbook - 6 Cell Battery.

Buying Asus Eee Pc 900hd

I purchased an ASUS 900HD nine months ago and it has seen very light use. The power supply quit working about three weeks ago. I submitted a help request on their Web site and after waiting for three weeks with no reply, called them. The woman I spoke with tried to trouble shoot the problem (try a different electrical outlet - duh) all of which I had already tried. Then she told me since it was nine months old, the battery (understandable) and power adaptor (not understandable) was out of warranty (six months for 'accessories'). I told her I was extremely unhappy and asked if she would like to make an unhappy customer happy for the relatively low price of a power adaptor (retail $49.99, their cost = much less). Nope. So I went online to the Web site she provided - and they are out of stock. So now I have a paperweight until ASUS can restock power supplies. My question, which I will never know the true answer is: Why are they out of power adaptors? Is this a systemic problem? For the light use this adaptor has seen in nine months (actually it started giving me intermittent problems in eight months)this is a very poor product.Get more detail about Asus Eee Pc 900hd.

Buy Samsung N130-13B 10.1-Inch Slate Blue Netbook - Up to 6.2 Hours of Battery Life

High points are portability and a battery life of about 5 hours max on medium brightness. That is what I expected. The only way you will get 6+ hours is on the dimmest setting. This is true for any netbook. Yes, loaded with unwanted software, but that can be deleted. Run speed is fine as expected for an atom/1 gig. I would pay $279- $299 direct from Amazon. In that price range it is a 5 star.Get more detail about Samsung N130-13B 10.1-Inch Slate Blue Netbook - Up to 6.2 Hours of Battery Life.

Purchase Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home) White

I had an HP ZD8000 laptop that I suffered through for 3 Years. It was everything the Lenovo isn't. The HP was big, Heavy, noisy, hot to the touch, hard on the eyes, and unreliable. After the HP developed the "jailhouse bars" vertical lines on it's display and HP customer service blew it off, it was time to look for something better. Firstly NO HP PRODUCT, EVER.

The Lenovo came the closest to what I wanted. The 10 inch display is more usable than the dim fuzzy 17 incher on the HP. The keyboard is very comfortable for long sessions.

The S10 weighs in around 3 pounds. The 3 cell battery handles my portable needs. For the semifixed needs a Targus AC/DC/car power converter does the trick. The Targus powers it in the car, where I mate the S10 with a Delorme USB GPS receiver and navigate with Street Atlas.

My main use is genealogy. The S10 runs all the programs just fine. The Master Genealogist requires setting the display for more pixels than it has and bumping up and down with the cursor.

Scanning is with a Canon LIDE 35 (replaced by LIDE 100) which weighs 3.5 lbs and is a little bigger than the S10. It powers over the USB. It scans pictures and documents. It lives in the bag with the S10.

Printing is with an ancient Canon BJC-80. It is small enough to take along, when needed.

Windows XP is a real plus. I fought with Vista on my wife's new Toshiba laptop. Windows 7 will no doubt be worse. XP rules!

Broadband connection is by an ATT Ultra Express modem. A USB modem would probably be the way to go today.

I have used the S10 for close to 2 years. The new smart books might replace it. The S10 and a cell phone are more user friendly.

The S10 and scanner take up less room and weigh less than the HP 17 inch by itself. It goes everywhere. A real portable office.

The only improvement that would make the S10 better is lower cost. It is already a bargain.Get more detail about Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home) White.

Where To Buy Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery

The Lonevo S10-2 is a beautiful and ultra portable netbook. It is not the most powerful 'laptop' on the market but for surfing the web and word processing it is perfect.

POSITIVES

Gorgeous Design
Ultra Portable
3 USB Ports
Card Reader
Never gets very hot

NEGATIVES

1. Big Negative and why it gets one star. There is a design flaw in the plastic monitor frame. After a few months a crack develops which is constantly spreading. This is not as a result of a bump or a drop (my laptops are treated with kid gloves) but in my opinion due to pressure on the frame from the hinge itself.

The crack develops close to and on the laptop hinge. I have read other reviews online referring to the same problem at the left hinge or both hinges, so there is clearly a design flaw. To compound the problem Lenovo does not wish to honor this flaw as a warranty claim. For this alone I would suggest persons NOT buy this product.

2. Small keyboard is okay to use for short periods of time, but any lengthy typing is strenuous.

3. There is a problem with the sleep mode where it will wake up on its own while it is closed and this results in the battery being drained or the machine getting very hot if left in a case.

4. The speakers are very poor and located under the keyboard. As such headphones will be needed to properly listen to audio.

In summary I would love to love this laptop. I really wish everything was perfect with it. But it has a terrible design flaw and a manufacturer who appears yet to recognize and admit it. As such avoid the headache and avoid this machine. There are many other options in the same price range with the same specs.Get more detail about Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery.

HP Mini 5101 FM956UT 10.1-Inch Netbook - Up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life

This is the third HP laptop/netbook I owned. It has everything I wanted for a machine that I use for e-mail and video calls on trips -- weight, size, battery life (4+ hrs), memory (2 GB), high quality sound and video, best keyboard of its class, and solidly built. I would have given it a 5-star if it were not becasue of three issues: (1) The Wi-Fi card did not work most of the time; (2) The 800 number for tech support that came with the machine was wrong. When I called the number, the person who answered the phone couldn't find the Mini 5101 in his database, even with serial number and product code provided. After an inordinate amount of time, he finally found out from someone that the Mini 5101 belongs to the "Business" and not the "Consummer" division where he was and that I should call a different number which he sucessfully connected me to (from India to China, I believe). (3) After the Wi-Fi card was repaired by sending it to Houston, Texas, now I have another problem, the power switch would not respond after the machine went into a standby/sleep mode. I couldn't wake up or turn off the machine, and has to do a dry boot (removing all power supply, including the battery and reconnect it again.) This time I used live-chat tech support and was asked to re-install the Operating System that came with a CD. But the Mini 5101, like all other netbooks, doesn't have a CD drive. Since I don't want to buy an external drive (and there is no guarantee that it'll solve the issue), I decided to avoid the problem by setting the sleep mode to "never."

I do have to say that HP has great tech support in the Business division. The tech person I talked to was patient and knowlegeable; the overnight repair service was as promised. I got my machine repaired and returned within three days, including shipping time from Los Angeles to Houston Texas, and back.Get more detail about HP Mini 5101 FM956UT 10.1-Inch Netbook - Up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

This is a wonderful netbook. I bought this cause I needed to do work when I am stuck at school and didn't want to drive back home waste gas. It does everything I need it to: surf the web, write documents, email, and it's portable. I use this laptop as a means to do work at school since I didn't want to buy a regular laptop. I already have a desktop at home, so I use this netbook as a means of doing SMALL AMOUNTS of works while at school.

Because it's a netbook I know not to expect it to work like a Macbook or any other fast-pace, high-capacity laptop. It's not meant for that type of functionality.

Bottom line: This is an awesome laptop if you are looking for something to do your work at a coffee shop like read and write documents and emailing.

It is not for those of you who tend to have more than 3+ programs running. Here's a quick analogy: netbooks are like little kids, if you ask them to carry an item for you they will only probably carry one or two items no more than 5 pounds. Regular laptops are adults who can carry about 5+ items about 50 pounds (depending on the adult) and not have a problem.

The processor (Intel Atom) on this netbook will not match up to regular processors like Core 2 Duos.

Do not buy this laptop if it's going to be your ONLY laptop. Buy it for convenience and portability.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

OCZ Neutrino OCZDIY10N1-US 10.1-Inch DIY Netbook Top Quality

This netbook is really easy to use and setup. It has great windows compatibility, really solid with WinXP and Win 7(everything works). Linux on the other you are practically stuck with Ubuntu Netbook Remix, everything works great with this distro. With other distributions such as Moblin V2.1 there are issues with the wireless card, but that will probably get fix with time. Also note that this computer comes with bluetooth and a empty pci-e slot(you can place storage, 3g card ...) something that does not seem to be promoted but is a big plus for me.
The only thing that i wish is for the screen to have a glass or glossy finish this one has the old style "flat" finish.
I really happy with netbook its been great.Get more detail about OCZ Neutrino OCZDIY10N1-US 10.1-Inch DIY Netbook.

Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 2.5+ Hour Battery Life This instant

I agree with the other reviewer about the fan cooler problem. I have owned this netbook since October. I started experiencing problems with the fan in December. I sent the computer in for repairs and am experiencing the same problem again. I own/ have owned 2 other VAIO's and love Sony products, but this one is turning into a huge disappointment. Aside from the fan, everything else has worked great.Get more detail about Sony VAIO VPC-W111XX/P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 2.5+ Hour Battery Life.

ASUS EEEPC 1101HAB-RBLK001X ,Soft Touch Black,11.6" Netbook,Intel Atom Z520 CPU,XP. Immediately

Had my 1101HAB bought for me in the U.S. and while speed of processor is slower than Atom 280, it is more than adquate for work while travelling. Size of keyboard and screen are just right but I have heard that Asus is now selling a 12.1 inch version of their netbook. That is about the threshold for netbooks and I will not use one that has a screen smaller than 11.1 inches or at least a 90% keyboard. Wireless connection is very fast, even if signal is not standard N, and Windows XP it came preloaded with is excellent for this type of portable computer. My only problem so far has been an erratic adapter which shuts down when hot and has to be cooled down in a refrigerator before it works again. I bring an airtight plastic container so I can cool the adapter quickly in the freezer. I had it replaced by local dealer but same problem so I opted to buy a spare from a third party vendor. Fortunately, the long battery life kept it working while I cooled down the adapter. I get between 6.5 to almost 8 hours per charge.Get more detail about ASUS EEEPC 1101HAB-RBLK001X ,Soft Touch Black,11.6" Netbook,Intel Atom Z520 CPU,XP..

ASUS 10.1" Eee PC 160GB Netbook Computer with Windows XP Home - Midnight Blue (1005HA) Best Quality

I have been helping a lady with this unit (xp version) and it has a real wifi problem. After reading the forums, it appears that some of these units have a wife problem such that you can't connect to nearby routers unless you are within 10ft. So if you buy this, check this out quickly and be sure your unit doesn't have the problem.Get more detail about ASUS 10.1" Eee PC 160GB Netbook Computer with Windows XP Home - Midnight Blue (1005HA).

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1447 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Sapphire Blue Get it now!

I bought this computer primarily to use at school for taking notes and writing papers, but I have been using it for pretty much everything since I got it. It's faster than I expected (faster than my expensive Piece of C*** HP tablet), but then one of the first things I did when I bought this computer was delete all the unnecessary bloatware. It's light enough that when I drop it in my backpack I don't really notice it, and the battery lasts a good 5 hours, sometimes more, which is astonishing since it's adveritised as good for 2.5. The keyboard was a little strange at first, but now that I'm used to it, my typing has become much faster and more accurate on it's smaller keys. I bought the copper brown, which is a nice, understated but interesting brown (it's almost the color of cola, or coffee with a sheen). My only real complaint is that the speakers are underneath the front bottom edge of the computer, so if you are using it as a laptop the sound is muffled. Oh, and also the screen has a fairly large plastic border... I'm sure there's some mechanical reason for that, but other computers this size have smaller borders with larger screens, and thus are the same total size. I mean, I bought the 8.9 because I wanted a smaller computer, not a smaller screen.

All in all this is a great little computer. Fits perfectly on those tiny college desks with room to spare, hasn't crashed once in the month I've had it, and it's faster by virtue of XP rather than Vista (I imagine it'll be even faster once I dump XP entirely and load up Linux). Another interesting note, I was sitting near a girl with a new Eee PC a couple days ago, and we started up at the same time. By the time hers was loaded and ready, I was already knee deep in note-taking and had three other programs open and running. Why, why Acer, did you have to discontinue this terrific little laptop?? Even my SO, who's a bloodthirsty Mac user, likes this computer.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1447 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Sapphire Blue.
