The reason I bought this netbook over others was the long-lasting battery. Everything looked great out of the box. I used the computer around the house for the night and put it on charge over night to get it juiced up again for more fun the next day. The battery never charged and hasn't charged, EVER! I called customer support to get help on a Saturday and was told I needed a new battery and received a Return Merchandise Authorization number and waited for my replacement battery. And waited, and waited. Never received the battery. I called with the case # and RMA and was told that the order was rejected by a "case manager" but the people on the phone couldn't tell me why. It was Saturday again, when most people have time away from work to wait on hold with customer care. They told me I had to contact a "case manager" to find out the issue. Well, the case managers have the weekend off, apparently. I was told that the case manager would contact me between Monday and Wednesday?! I was welcome to call and chase them down if I chose to, which I did this Monday. Gretchen took my call and sent out a new battery and an incomplete AC adapter kit (it has 2 pieces to it and I received 2 of the same parts of the adapter). I called this morning to tell Gretchen that the new battery didn't charge over night and to see what we could do next. She never called me back and I talked to Mina who assured me that Gretchen would call me tomorrow to send me the other part of the AC adapter that I'm missing. Well, I was telling her about my dissatisfaction which she apparently didn't have time for and hung up on me. I called Mina back to escalate my complaints and was told the case workers don't have a level above them but I could tell another case worker of my unhappiness, which I did. Now I have to wait to have Gretchen call me back with some sort of solution other than replacing the netbook. I have been told that I will probably have to send it in for repair. So, the netbook I bought on 3/8 has not worked properly for 2 weeks and I still have no resolution!!! Again, god forbid you have any issues with this machine!!!Get more detail about Toshiba Mini 300 Series NB305-N310 10.1-Inch Netbook - Black Onyx.

Save Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-BK 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Black)
Ordered this netbook because I was looking for an n450 powered device akin to the 1005 line.
Well let me say that I'm glad I didn't spend the extra 60 bucks. This computer has everything the 1005 line has minus bluetooth (honestly, I don't think I've ever met a person who uses bluetooth) battery life (11 vs 14 hours, real world 8 vs 11 hours), harddrive space (160GB versus 250GB which is a negligible difference), display (matte screen vs glossy screen equal resolution), wireless (g vs n) and finish (matte vs glossy).
Now, that seems like a lot of differences, but all of them, save battery life, are pointless bells and whistles that do nothing to affect the performance of the computer (akin to putting a moon roof and a spoiler on a car and jacking the price up).
Battery life is the only worthwhile difference between the two models (maybe worth 60-80 bucks depending on what your plans are). It would have been nice to have wireless n, but most users probably won't notice a difference.
As far as the screen and finish go, I think matte is actually an advantage. A glossy screen is exhausting to read on in bright light. I'll never understand what the recent obsession with glossy screens is; they are murderous to the eyes. As for a glossy finish, your netbook will look like a piece of well worn packing tape after 15 minutes (big greasy fingerprints everywhere!).
I've heard a lot of people complain that the keyboard of this model feels spongy, but I think they must be typing with mallets, because the 1001p keyboard feels like every other laptop I've ever used. It does not depress in the corners or anywhere for that matter and I'm a fairly hard typist.
The first thing I did when I got this computer was clean install windows 7 ultimate and office 2003 (office 2007 being an unholy abomination; a grievous injustice perpetrated upon all of mankind). So far the netbook has been breezing through applications on 1GB ram with nary a stutter. I would highly recommend upgrading from the absolute garbage windows 7 starter, it doesn't even let you change the wallpaper and is solely intended to annoy you. Furthermore, you might as well get rid of all the asus software (it periodically generates pop-up ads asking if you want to pay for something) and just install the drivers for lan and wireless, you really don't need the others.
In conclusion (ah, high school english where would I be without you) The 1001P is a solid, surprisingly powerful little netbook with excellent design. It is more than adequate for most computing tasks short of video editing. And for 280$? Are you kidding me? How can you complain?Get more detail about Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-BK 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Black).
Discount Acer AOD250-1842 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
I've had this netbook for almost a month. I love it. I did a lot of comparing and reading comments here on Amazon and I'm so glad I picked this one. It's very light, works very well with the Intant Watch Netflix (this was one of my concerns) and the battery life is great.Get more detail about Acer AOD250-1842 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).

Cheapest Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BN 10.1-Inch Sable Brown Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
I have 3 Acers, 1 HPs, 1 Samsung (the best) and this crappy Toshiba.
Good things:
a. Great Keyboard (which I dont use much since I have a wireless expanded one attached)
b. Nice Aluminim/Blue color (that does not help at all for it's performance)
c. Battery Life: Very Good.
Real thing:
I replaced the original RAM and placed a Crucial 2GB card as I had done to the rest of all of my other netbooks.
The Toshiba is not as fast overall. Samsung Netbook is by far the quickest to open, launch, start and shutdown. Samsung has not the strongest body. Acer does, however, for standard non-aggressive use, Samsung is the best of all. Also the battery never gets hot. Acer is the kind you can dump to the floor and no one will notice. Those two are just great. HP also is a fine computer.
Toshiba does not support multiple monitors. I bought this computer along with a 23" monitor and a wireless keyboard and mouse in order to have 2 different screenshots at sight, but the expanded desktop feature does not work, since the original cheap video card only supports one monitor with the same view as the Desktop in the Netbook's screen.
The unit looks very neat from the outide, and looks like a good value if all STANDARD TWENTYFIRST CENTURY's BASIC STANDARD TECHNOLOGY features came with it.
Please note I am not talking about cutting-edge stuff. Just plain basics.
But they are not included.
Covnersely, instead of cheap, it turned out to be expensive since it does not meet basic standards. I found out that Toshiba did not even bother to use Bluetooth techonology, point which I took for granted, but pals ... Toshiba does not grant anything. You need a magnifying glass to buy Toshiba before you do.
I called Customer service to ask about the EXPANDED DESKTOP which I could not make work , and they cordially said " We are sorry ... You can take your computer to Toshiba Service Center but you will have to pay yourself for your new multiple monitor Video Card ".
Just need to check Windows 7 help center, to find out they donot even contemplate such an instance. No computers are designed without this feature. Except Toshiba, of course.
Basically, I have a brand new left over 23" monitor, a brand new wireless Microsoft Keyboard and a wireless mouse which I will give my Son for his birthday since I cannot use it with my brand new Toshiba.
This Toshiba, is not used to what it was meant for, since lack of bluetooth and lack of multiple monitor support, turned it to a great shopping list computer.
WQhy be so pesimistic ???
I Type Milk, Salt, Peanut Butter and so on, and it works perfectly for that, since the keyboard is really nice.

Buy ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook (Up to 14 Hours of Battery Life)
I ordered this PC for a family member. Thanks to quizzing on the expectations of a small laptop followed by quite a bit of research of what is available, I made the right choice. The ASUS eee won out over comparable mini PC's offered by HP and Toshiba.
FEEDBACK: The recipient family member has made numerous statements such as "I love this PC" and "It is so light to carry" and "It runs so much faster than my desktop" and "Connecting wirelessly is so simple" and "Windows 7 is nice, looks a lot like XP" and "since the battery lasts so long, I can leave the power cord at home" and "It is going to make so many things so much easier".
OPTIONS: We ordered a protective mini PC sleeve. We also immediately upgraded the RAM from the installed 1GB to 2GB. There is only one memory slot thus the original 1GB chip is around as a spare/backup. To make the laptop recognize the additional RAM, we had to go into the BIOS and save the settings again (despite not making any changes). Then all was good.
HARD DRIVE: The hard drive is advertised as 160 GB. However, the unit came with it divided into three virtual drives. Two are used for restoring the C: drive to factory settings. Thus, the C: is only about 100 GB. That is still lots of storage space unless one needs to store many videos or other such mega sized files.
BATTERY: The battery life is very good. The Windows tray icon gives the estimated battery time left in hours and minutes.
SCREEN: The 10.1 inch screen is pretty good despite its small size and low resolution. Depending on the eyes, reader glasses might be needed.
HEAT: I did encounter several reviewer comments about the unit getting warm on the legs (if you truly use it as a laptop). However, the heat is not unbearable, just noticeable.
MISSING: The only thing that is missed on this laptop is CD/DVD unit. We are looking for one that can plug into the USB ports (it will take two ports with an external unit that is not powered by other means). Speaking of USB ports, the unit has three. Targus offers on Amazon a 4-for-1 where it plugs into one USB port then four separate USB ports are available from it.
ASUS REPUTATION: From my research I found that ASUS has the best customer rating of all PC makers, period. And by quite a margin too.
BOTTOM LINE: All in all, a great choice that has generated lots of smiles and thank you's.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook (Up to 14 Hours of Battery Life).

Buy Eeepc 8G White - Xp
I just bought this for my daughter for her birthday from Toys'r us. I'm sure it's a great little netbook, but the screen is just way too small. It doesn't seem to say anywhere in the listing but it is a 7" screen. It gives me a headache to look at. I checked out my daughter's sites, Club Penguin and Webkinz. On Club Penguin the play screen is maybe 3" wide on the screen and you really can't read what all the little penguins are saying to each other. I couldn't even login to Webkinz because the login screen that popped up was too big for the netbook screen and I could not access the login button. My father has a 8.9"" asus that I played around on and is much easier on the eyes. I will be returning this little one and paying the extra $30 for a bigger one!Get more detail about Eeepc 8G White - Xp.

Purchase ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)
My Seashell arrived Friday. The first hour or two I was unsure as my primary PC (work) is a Lenovo T400. This was so small.
After spending time getting used to the size and organizing the features to my preferences - I fell in love. It is exactly what I had hoped it would be. It's perfect for surfing the net, reading news online, watching videos. It's light and easy to use.
The storage will be large enough for my iTunes and to run the Office Suite. The 2 GB RAM is a nice upgrade compared to most other netbooks with just 1 GB. I think it's going to be great for travel and just to have around the house for everyday internet needs.

Order HP Mini 110-1109NR 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 3.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows XP)
I had absolutely no idea what to think with the product. To be honest, I had done very little research on this HP netbook, but I am very pleased with it's performance, thus far. I was told by a friend after she purchased her netbook, that her laptop became a thing of the past and I now understand fully what she meant. It's compact, practical for travel and ideal for those light task of checking emails and surfing the web. For the price, it was certainly a great investment.Get more detail about HP Mini 110-1109NR 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 3.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows XP).
Where To Buy Lenovo IdeaPad S10 - Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz - RAM 512 MB - HDD 80 GB - GMA 950 - WLAN : 802.11b/g - Win XP Home - 10.2" Widescreen TFT 1024 x 600 ( WSVGA ) - camera - white - Microsoft Office Ready
I wanted this machine as soon as I saw it because the idea of a netbook is way cool to me.
I have had pdas and Blackberrys and Palm Pilots and it is just not the same as a real little computer you can carry around with you. I have had Thinkpads in the past and they were just really solid laptops, so I went with this one over Acer and HP and everybody else. Yes I know this is not IBM anymore but Lenovo has kept up the quality as far as I can see.
Sure there is no optical drive but what do you want from a computer this small? A girl could put it in a big purse easily. I am giving it 5 stars after owning it for 6 months...the only thing I did was get a laptop connect wireless broadband card for it, if you can afford that do it because then you are basically connected wherever you go no need for hotspots. It does take a little while to get used to the downsized keyboard, but once you do you are golden...just an awesome little machine.Get more detail about Lenovo IdeaPad S10 - Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz - RAM 512 MB - HDD 80 GB - GMA 950 - WLAN : 802.11b/g - Win XP Home - 10.2" Widescreen TFT 1024 x 600 ( WSVGA ) - camera - white - Microsoft Office Ready.

In the house we have other models of the netbook, the 8.9 LCD screen.
This one I like the keyboard it has just enough more space that you can type comfortable with it. The scree is better than the 8.9 LCD and so far I have no issues with it.
I will probably in the near future will add more memory and a bigger hard drive, but you can't beat the price as it does all you need to do for a netbook.
I can take it anywhere, watch a movie, surf the internet and so on. I will recommended.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1587 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life.
Sylvania GNET41601XB 10-Inch Magni Black G-Netbook - 3 Cell Battery
I got this 10" laptop for under $300. I am very much impressed by the features. I think its worth its price...
The only problem i came across now is that web cam doesn't work with the hot key button, its a software problem, and now I will have to call the customer service.....160 GB and wifi and very light weight.. i think its better than 8.9" screen size, which you might get cheaper but it way too small...10" is the perfect and you can take it all around ur house with wireless internet. I would recommend this netbook without any reservations. hope this helps.Get more detail about Sylvania GNET41601XB 10-Inch Magni Black G-Netbook - 3 Cell Battery.
Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-2867 10.1-Inch Gecko Green Netbook Review
Bought the IM 10 with TV tuner. The touchpad makes me want to scream. The only time the mouse will follow my fingers (for 5-10 seconds) is if I spit on them. Dell owes a fix and an explanation to consumers. The TV Tuner does a poor job of picking up video signals. Out of 5, 4 were local religious stations. I was surprized by the weight of the battery. Certainly not a laptop to hold in one hand. Still exploring for the pros and hope I have discovered all the cons.Get more detail about Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-2867 10.1-Inch Gecko Green Netbook.

Acer Aspire One AOA110-1137 8.9-Inch Onyx Black Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life Top Quality
ok, this is a fine netbook. The typical netbook spec (1.6 atom cpu, integrated graphics, 1gb ram...),
which is same as most more expensive netbooks (with large sata hard drives).
runs most streaming videos flawlessly, (hulu, HQ on youtube, though not HD...)
and even 720p HD videos (not streaming 720p, due to software limitations by flash).
but this specific version of Aspire One, (Acer Aspire One AOA110) use a very slow SSD.
this specific SSD's write speed is very slow, with random pauses during extensive use.
Its low write speed slows down almost everything, even web surfing.
you can replace SSD with... a real SSD (1.8" zif), or a 1.8" pata zif hard drives.
if you're thinking of buying this, only do so if this is much cheaper than the hard drive version.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA110-1137 8.9-Inch Onyx Black Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life.
Velocity Micro Notemagix M10 Gx 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Blue This instant
First off, I think everyone is being a little critical of this machine. I recently picked it up at a local retailer in Dallas for less than two benjamins, so maybe if some of those people had gotten it at THAT price point, they might have a different tune. But I digress. First the weak points.
Cons:
1. Yes, the keyboard is awful. 1/3 size right shift key is certainly a deal-breaker for some: I know personally it's how I capitalize and it's nearly impossible on this unit without training yourself not to hit the 'end' key instead. It's also flimsy and overall cheap feeling, they certainly didn't put much thought into it, but it works for short data entry. Wouldn't want to type something this long on it though.
2. There's no blank dummy card for the media reader. Better keep your dust and spills to a minimum, it's certainly exposed.
3. There is no LCD latch. Say goodbye to securely closed lid, and hope to god the hinges never start to get loose.
4. It ships /w Open Office. I don't consider this bloatware, and I love open source, but this suite will NEVER replace good ol Office. EVER. It should have just been an option to install from CD or whatever.
5. The battery life isn't what is claimed. In my tests, I could get to 4 hours and some change of straight use, but that's with wifi OFF, no ethernet, no multimedia, minimal multitasking, and letting it go into standby if I had to go to the bathroom or got distracted by something else. You will NOT EVER get 6 hours out of these batteries. They should have just come clean on this. Maybe I really need to fully charge/discharge it a few more times, but I get the feeling what other people say about this is true. Also, charging three hours just to get three hours (or so)? That's pretty lame.
6. Velocity. Why is it a con? Because who knows them? No one. Will they honor the warranty? Who knows. Will the battery erupt in hell flames? Could happen. Will the thing crack and break in half in less than a month? A possibility. I simply don't know what to expect in the future of this device.
7. As expected, BIOS options are practically non-existent. That's to be expected, but still disappointing. If you like being able to change your date and time, you'll be in heaven. Anything else... well.....nope.
8. Included documentation is kind of a joke. Beyond teaching the basics of what a touchpad IS, they also tell you such helpful things as what the Fn keys does, and how to turn your laptop on and off. That's about it.
9. Speakers. At max volume it's tinny and shallow. I didn't expect them to be fantastic, but they are no more than glorified earbuds embedded in the side of the case.
Pros:
1. It ships with -ZERO- bloatware! Thank god, no spending an hour or two removing crappy trials of software you never wanted.
2. It's quick as all get out. With no bloatware to slow it down, and 'adjusting for best performance' /w visual effects (keeping the theme of course) this little machine is extra snappy, even with spreadsheets, webpages, hamachi, VPN, outlook, virus protection, and other stuff running. I'm still thrilled such modest specs can produce such surprising speed.
3. Stable wireless. Alot of netbooks are plagued by somewhat flaky WLAN, this unit has been solid, picking up access points further away than my other computers can, and having more bars in more places (where did that come from?)
4. It's not NEARLY as thick and bulky as it looks in the marketing photos. When I went out ot look at this, I was really expecting a sub-notebook, kind of clunky and bigger than most netbooks. It's not. For whatever reason most of the photos of it make it look about 30-40% larger than it is. It's very light and very small.
5. VGA PORT! Some netbooks are leaving this out now. Give me a break. You have to have this, and this does.
6. I think this is clever but some people might find it annoying. In a bid to save battery life, the laptop, upon reboot, always shuts the WIFI OFF. That way, unless you need it, it's not on, sucking juice. It did, of course, confuse me the first time I rebooted and my wireless wasn't working anymore.
7. The included case. Some might think it's cheesy, but I think it's a good admission on their part. They know this is a fragile product, and you should not treat it like a toy. Keeping the overall price point low by including a case, however cheap, is a good marketing strategy if you ask me. Now if they had included a little mouse too, I would really been impressed. And it may be cheap, but it still looks nice and will offer decent protection from scratches and scuffs.
In-betweens:
1. Webcam. It's been a looonnnggg time since I've actually used one. I think my first was a logitech quickcam, you know the one. This one has a MUCH better one, at least in terms of still images. There is still alot of ghosting during motion.
Overall, in terms of value, this netbook is incredible. It's got some quirks, but I can overlook them, and maybe you can too. Hope this helps.

Velocity Micro Notemagix M10 Gx 10.1-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Black Immediately

Lenovo IdeaPad S10e Netbook Best Quality
Not too shabby for a net surfer but if you want to type ANYTHING find something else. If they decide to switch the up arrow with the right shift key this could be a winner, until then typing on this thing will move your cursor up a line or more and drive you NUTS. I don't think this is something you can get use to because the placement of the shift key just is not right or natural. It also runs a little hot so the fan kicks on frequently. It seems a little heavy for it's compact size. I was excited about getting this product at work...thank goodness they let me test it first. My Lenovo x300 seems to weigh the same or less and at 13 inches and some change it's perfect and has a cd rom as well with 3 usb ports...more pricey but you'll be happier I promise.Get more detail about Lenovo IdeaPad S10e Netbook.
Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-2864 10.1-Inch Red Netbook Get it now!
Still exploring for the pros and hope I have discovered all the cons.Get more detail about Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-2864 10.1-Inch Red Netbook.

ASUS EEEPC900-BK090X 8.9-Inch Netbook Order Now
I absolutely love the portability of the netbook. I can carry it in my purse! However, once I get to Starbucks and sit down to do something as simple as go on facebook, if I open more than one window it will take forever to load. Sometimes there are messages about the virtual memory that cause internet explorer to shut down. I wish this product had more power and capability when it comes to browsing the web, considering that's what netbooks are made for..Get more detail about ASUS EEEPC900-BK090X 8.9-Inch Netbook.

I bought the smaller ASUS because I wanted a light lightweight, and because I didn't think I needed much of a keyboard. I'm a MAC nut, but was absolutely flabbergasted to find this little gem has a great keyboard, can be dropped in my purse (my MODEST sized purse - along with my Kindle), and I am armed for the 30 (130) minute pharmacy waits, doctor waits, my husband-in-Lowe's waits. In other words, I'm a happy camper, and my camping is happy due to my 8.9" Asus.
Long may it wave!

MSI U123-019US 10.2-Inch Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life - Blue Right now
The notebook is not bad at its price, it works even though the microphone and camera quality is not very good even for SKYPE calls. The biggest problem is that I notices the screen is flickering at approximately ~80 HZ, like CRT monitor. This was a biggest problem for me, as my eyes are sensitive an becomes red after an hour of work. So, I consider it useless for me. Low Price ASUS Eee PC 4GB 7" Mini Notebook Computer with Linux - Galaxy Black
This is a great little travel/starter notebook.
Pros: VERY lightweight & portability, good screen visibility, ease of use.
Cons: After several months of use, the battery life decreases, linux can be tricky for someone used to Windows or MacOS.
I have had mine since roughly 05/2008, and will continue to use it for some time. I will be seeking a better replacement battery, though.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 4GB 7" Mini Notebook Computer with Linux - Galaxy Black.
Save ARCHOS 10 10.2-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery
I purchased from Tiger Direct the 3 cell version. I can get 2.5 hours out of a charge with moderate use. The screen is fantastic. There is no glare unlike others with the glossy screen. I am satisfied with the performance of the machine - as all other netbooks this one has the same guts, but I think it runs faster just a bit. The included software is slightly bloaty but not too bad. Tech4Less sent me three DOA memory chips, one right after the other, over a two week period. Total waste of time. Then for the icing on the cake, I got a $5.00 refund (out of roughly $17.00 that I spent). It's obvious they don't test their memory chips before selling them. Cheapest Lenovo IdeaPad S10-1311UBK6 10.2-Inch Black Netbook
We purchased the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook for work. Unfortunately it never worked correctly! We had to send it back to Lenovo to be repaired and are still waiting for it to return. The idea pad looked like a great buy and something we could easily take with us on business trips and conferences. However, when we received it, nothing worked. It would turn on (you could see the on light flashing) but nothing would happen. The screen remained dark, no matter what we did! Even when plugged in, it wouldn't work. We are very much unimpressed with our new gadget and the hassle we had in sending it back is crazy! Amazon wouldn't refund us since we'd had it a month before trying it out. (We know better now and will immediately unbox our devices for testing instead of waiting for our next meeting to try them out!) So we had to go through Lenovo which is a total nightmare! Not only do you get the run around on the phone (we were transferred a total of 8 times before we got someone who could help us), the guy we spoke to gave us the wrong instructions for sending it back for repairs, we had to call back and speak to another representative who said they would mail us a return box to ship it back in.. which never arrived. On our third call, we got an american woman who knew what should have been done all along and emailed us the return label. We are now waiting for the repaired netbook to arrive. If we ever get the thing working, I'll let you know how it is. But take my advise, go with a Dell. They always give you great service and never a run around.Get more detail about Lenovo IdeaPad S10-1311UBK6 10.2-Inch Black Netbook.
Cheap Samsung NC10-14GBK 10.2-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery
After doing my online research, I determined this is what I wanted based on reports and reviews. It was on a bit of a sale when I bought it, so that didn't hurt either.
I use this netbook as my primary work computer as a software engineer. It gets a lot of daily use, including typing and internet browsing (man pages aren't for me).
Pros:
* Great battery life. I've had it report up to 10 hours remaining at times, although it was with networking off and screen dimmed. With screen at max, on network, I can reliably get 5 hours.
* Nice screen. Even at minimum brightness, if you're not in sunlight, you can easily see and read the screen.
* Resolution. 1024x600 gives you a pretty good view of most web sites. It's even enough to play your favorite video games like starcraft, diablo, etc...
* 93% keyboard. Apparently that's how big the keyboard is compared to a standard one. It's not too bad to type on. I use it for 8 hours a day, every day, and haven't encountered any more typos than usual.
* SD card reader. This is a nice addition, I always have an SD card for quick little backups.
* Blue. It's a really nice color.
Cons:
* Cramped keyboard = bad shortcuts. Unfortunately for me, I use the home/end keys literally hundreds of times a day. These keys are situated on the arrow keys, requiring me to press Fn+Up to go home. When I want to highlight an entire line of text (Fn+Shift+Up), it's pretty inconvenient. Most people don't even know where their home key is though, so it depends on how you'd be using it how this would affect you.
* Ubuntu Karmic Koala. I have this installed, and in order to use some functions (such as adjusting screen brightness), it was necessary for me to flash my BIOS. This may or may not bother you.

Buy Lenovo IdeaPad S10 10.2-Inch Red Netbook - 3 Cell Battery
the use for this unit is for my wife to email and access the internet. The home desk top PC frustrated her to use as it take about 10 minutes to bootup. (Needs updated soon---- after the release of MS Windows7)
I bought the Lenovo because of the style, specs and software installed.
the unit has the option to use face recognition to sign in. The wife likes that feature. the unit works great. We like the fact that the internet camera, speakers and microphone are built in. It makes it very simple for my wife to talk to me via Skype when I travel internationally.
We used it on our Alaskan cruise to store/backup all the pics we took. Worked great and it was nice to be able to review the pics on a screen larger then 2.5". The small size and light weight were just what we were looking for.
I would recommend it higher if it had come with the 6 cell battery. The 3 cell battery it came with is good for about 1-1.5 hours.Get more detail about Lenovo IdeaPad S10 10.2-Inch Red Netbook - 3 Cell Battery.

Order Acer Aspire One AOA150-1672 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Pink
Got this for the lady wife. She has been more than happy. She sits on the couch and IMs her sister and her daughter, updates her blogs and generally has a good time with it. Seems a trifle slow, but then it IS a netbook.
She dropped it, 4' onto our ceramic tile kitchen floor. She said it "bounced". She picked it. No chips, no cracks and it works. It is the tiniest bit out of true. Does not seem to want to sit on all 4 feet. But still works and when it is in her lap she does not even notice.
Some people had wondered about the durability of Acer products. Well, if you can go by this one, I believe they are put together right well.

Mini 1120NR
The HP Mini is a pretty good product. HP has really stepped ahead of the competition by putting an actual keyboard on this thing. Lots of space, and it has a true standard keyboard layout, unlike most Dell, Asus, and Acer netbooks. Screen is great quality, SSD drive performs well. Running Linux, this guy is pretty fast. My only complaint with it is the poor battery life. A lot of netbooks are shipping with 6-cell batteries that give them 5+ hours of battery life. This one ships with a 3-cell, giving me just over 2 hours. HP makes a 6-cell, but it costs half the price of the netbook. I'll just stick to frequent charges right now. All in all, this is the best netbook that I have encountered on the market so far. HP has done a nice job with this product.Get more detail about Mini 1120NR.
ASUS 8.9" Eee 4GB PC Netbook Computer with Linux - Black Review
This is a great computer to take to a hotel.... It is not meant for solid home use; the keyboard is too small, and the memory isn't great.
You can actually use the keyboard, but I do find myself pecking with one finger a lot, which is why I didn't give it a five star. The speed is pretty fair, and the wireless connection is awesome. I can get a signal in a room that I could not get on my wireless laptop, which makes it a nice little computer to use in my bedroom if my husband is on our main computer. I previously had no way of connecting to the internet in that room, but thanks to this computer and our wireless system, I can.
It was easy to set up (almost no set up required), easy to figure out, for this novice, and easy to connect to the internet. The Linux, which the salesman warned me about, and my teenager told me I would hate, was not an issue at all. It doesn't take any prevous knowledge of how to use linux. It was easy to connect to the internet at the hotel and at home.
It serves my purpose perfectly (throw in a back pack to take on vacation to connect to the internet). I haven't really done anything with documents. It doesn't have a lot of memory or a place to put a dvd..., but you can use a card... for memory and add an external disk drive. I wouldn't want to type a whole lot on it. It is best for net surfing, checking e-mail..., but like I said, you can use the keyboard. It just takes a little more effort than a full size.
I bought a little mouse to go with it, and it is handy dandy! I also like the little neoprene or whatever it is called cover (quite awesome). It is great protection for it. I put the mouse and cord in a little make up bag and throw in my back pack with it. Get more detail about ASUS 8.9" Eee 4GB PC Netbook Computer with Linux - Black.
ASUS 7" Eee 8GB PC Netbook Computer with Windows XP - Galaxy Black Top Quality
I really enjoy using this this netbook! I have had several of the acer and hp netbooks, but at 10.2 inches screens and approaching over 3 lbs I think they are getting away from the spirit of this laptop category. I primarily use this to look up things on the net through its built in WiFi and my wife and I have used it with great success on a recent trip to San Francisco tethered to my SPRINT phone as a modem. The keyboard is a bit cramped but I generally am not typing more than 10 words at time so its generally not an issue for me.
PROS:
- Tiny Size !!!
- Did I mention it's T I N Y ?? Barely bigger than a VHS tape.
- Featherweight at 1.9 lbs
- Good battery life for its size (I get 3-4 hrs)
CONS:
- Small Screen ( Non Standard Resolution, wish it supported 1024*768)
- Keyboard is small and can be a challenge for people with truck driver hands like me.
- Its not a speed demon, I wouldn't open up more than 6 tabs in FIREFOX

Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch Gray Netbook - 6 Cell Battery Immediately
Hi,
This netbook delivers everything as advertised and then some. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because the facial recognition does not work except under ideal lighting conditions. I don't really need the facial recognition anyway but it needs refining before being released to the public. Everything else works great.

Dell Mini 9 Inspiron 910 Laptop Notebook (Black) - Intel® Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR2, 8GB HD, 8.9" WSVGA, Integrated Webcam, Windows XP Home Best Quality
i have had my dell mini 9 for almost a year now and still LOVE it. I do a lot of writing and it is excellent fr that. I have Windows XP but did not get the office software. I downloaded openoffice.org software and the programs I use (writer and presentation are they are compatible with word and powerpoint thus far).
I purchased additional SD cards which I use for storing my info...
Using a mouse is best for me, and the keyboard takes a little to get used to, but for its purpose, the Dell mini 9 is wonderful...I had an ASUS, which was fine, but I prefer the Dell mini.Get more detail about Dell Mini 9 Inspiron 910 Laptop Notebook (Black) - Intel® Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR2, 8GB HD, 8.9" WSVGA, Integrated Webcam, Windows XP Home.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1197 10.1-Inch Diamond Black Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life Get it now!
I will recommended.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1197 10.1-Inch Diamond Black Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life.
OCZ Neutrino OCZDIY10N1-US 10.1-Inch DIY Netbook Order Now
This netbook is really easy to use and setup. It has great windows compatibility, really solid with WinXP and Win 7(everything works). Linux on the other you are practically stuck with Ubuntu Netbook Remix, everything works great with this distro. With other distributions such as Moblin V2.1 there are issues with the wireless card, but that will probably get fix with time. Also note that this computer comes with bluetooth and a empty pci-e slot(you can place storage, 3g card ...) something that does not seem to be promoted but is a big plus for me.
The only thing that i wish is for the screen to have a glass or glossy finish this one has the old style "flat" finish.
I really happy with netbook its been great.Get more detail about OCZ Neutrino OCZDIY10N1-US 10.1-Inch DIY Netbook.

Asus Eee PC 1008HA Seashell 10.1-Inch Pearl Pink Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life Decide Now
I like it. It's not a bad little computer. I have my more expensive laptop at home and carry this one around school for notes. It does the basics just fine. The battery life is great too. I can type constantly for 3-4 hours and it doesn't need to be charged at all during that time. Great for a student that doesn't want to lug around their heavier more expensive laptop around. Acer Aspire One AOA110-1995 8.9-Inch Seashell White Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life Right now
ok, this is a fine netbook.
Its low write speed slows down almost everything, even web surfing.
you can replace SSD with... a real SSD (1.8" zif), or a 1.8" pata zif hard drives.
if you're thinking of buying this, only do so if this is much cheaper than the hard drive version.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA110-1995 8.9-Inch Seashell White Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life.
Lowest Price MSI Wind U123-001US 10.2-Inch Blue Netbook - 6 Cell Battery
Great little unit. Should really have built in bluetooth and Mobile Wireless (aka WWAN). I upgraded the memory to 2GB and put Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 operating system. This O/S and this unit together work very well.
I selected this unit due to the fact that it was a 100% compatible on the Ubuntu website. I am NOT a windows fan and avoid it when I can.
The H/W is light, battery life is good, not as good as advertised. About 4hrs 30mins of constant use with Wifi on.
If you go the Ubuntu route you need to be a little technical as for most people it is a different O/S and you may need some tinkering. I did not need to tinker as it worked 100% after install. I created 4 user accounts on the MSI for the family, including one account that has admin privileges.
With 6 mins of instruction my whole family is able to use this to print, surf the web with firefox and use Open Office which is the opensource equivalent to Microsoft Office.
I have been able to successfully tether my Nokia e71 to Ubuntu and can get on ATT 3G
Once the 11" versions of these hit, I will buy again.
Pleasantly surprised and pleased.Get more detail about MSI Wind U123-001US 10.2-Inch Blue Netbook - 6 Cell Battery.
