Beware with this product, I bought it al Oct2008 at Miami and broght it to Perú, South America. It worked only for three times and then never turned on again. I wrote ASUS about the guarantee they refer me to two ASUS dealers here. The dealers don't accept to check it because it was not a product sold by them. I wrote ASUS again and after a long dicussion they told me that even there is ASUS dealers in Perú I bought it at USA so I should travel back for them to check it. The ticket is more expensive than the Netbook. They continue with this discussion until the guarantee period expired. I know this wouldn't happend to me if I bought some other well known brand.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1000H 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony.

Lowest Price Acer Aspire One AOA150-1672 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Pink
I originally was wanting to purchase a secondary laptop for college, something that would be lightweight and easy to carry to class with me.
This computer is amazingly light, I stick it right in my purse and take it everywhere with me! The specs are good and it is perfect for doing homework or surfing the internet. Of course you have to get used to the small screen and keyboard, but I got accustomed to that in about a week or so.
I honestly have no complaints about this laptop, I have had mine for about 6 months now and still use it almost every day. Of course the system is too small for an optical drive and that is understandable but doesn't take away from it's usefulness. I have a normal sized laptop to watch movies and burn DVDs but I take the little one with me so I can have the convenience of being connected 24/7.
Definitely a great buy for someone who is always on the go~Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1672 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Pink.

Save Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-2863 10.1-Inch Obsidian Black Netbook
First off, I paid $225 for mine, refurb from Dell. It has the upgraded graphics and the 1.33GHz CPU, but everything else is the same as listed here.
I love it.
As with any computer, you have to decide what you need it for and bend it to your will. In my case, that was word processing, net access, and watching videos. Of the three, videos require the most from the machine. With the first round of drivers available from Dell, high-quality, hi-def movies were choppy. There were work-arounds, but the latest drivers seem to be much better, playing the movies smoothly.
I have read many complaints about the lack of a memory upgrade (the 1GB of RAM is soldered in) and the quirky touch pad. The memory has never been too little for me, despite my worst expectations. XP and Windows 7 both work fine on the machine in 1GB so don't fret that one. The touch pad turns out to be great. I hated it at first, until I realized it was a double touch pad. It reacts differently to 1 finger than it does to 2. Once you grok that, you'll have far fewer issues with it (although, I still prefer a mouse.)
Battery life it good. I can watch an entire hi-def movie on a charge. It lasts much longer if just typing or browsing. It runs simple games and all office apps I've tried on it. With the upgraded graphics, the images are sharp and very impressive.
If I could change it, I'd up the CPU to the 1.6GHz model (although I can actually overclock this one to 1.6Hz and higher) and I'd have gotten the wireless N. But for the price I paid, I'm very happy with it.Get more detail about Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-2863 10.1-Inch Obsidian Black Netbook.
Discount Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 (NB200 series) 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life
Well, I have used the machine now for over two weeks and I am still amazed that it works so well, at least at the level of my use, in terms of office programs, adobe photoshop (opens quite fast), internet and a bit of videos. It is so light that the 9 hr battery (which weighs double the rest of the machine) seems just too much of a luxury. In the beginning Firefox made a fuss at low intensity screen size (600x800 I guess) but it worked fine. Battery holds well for 9 hours if you do not use wireless connection.
I replaced the memory with a 2GB card I bought (not toshiba) and it recognized it quickly. And this is the first time ever I had done such a technical manouver.
The touch pad was too sensitive that the cursor was jumping all over, but Toshiba has a way (though I had to switch some 4 screens to get there) to block tapping while typing, and that was the cure. Keyboard, though small, did not give me much trouble (I type with all fingers).
So far so good and the price was just great too.
Since my previous experiences with Toshiba had not been that good (overheating, etc) I was having second thoughts, but Amazon prior reviews gave me confidence, and Thanks.Get more detail about Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 (NB200 series) 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life.

Cheapest ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB E-Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery)
Had to return the product three times, paying shipping of 30$ twice, until replaced an obviously defective product. Classically poor phone support with language difficulties. Battery-of which I ended up with two, fully charged reads 5.2 and 4.15 hours battery life --tag right on the machine boasts 7 hours. Tech Support says no one else has ever complained get less than 7 hours. Lastly it is the worst I have ever had...... if not typing constantly, the curser bounces up 3-8 lines into the middle of word in another sentence ----almost impossible to use for note taking --really for anything .Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB E-Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery).

Buying Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White
I bought this computer primarily to use at school for taking notes and writing papers, but I have been using it for pretty much everything since I got it. It's faster than I expected (faster than my expensive Piece of C*** HP tablet), but then one of the first things I did when I bought this computer was delete all the unnecessary bloatware. It's light enough that when I drop it in my backpack I don't really notice it, and the battery lasts a good 5 hours, sometimes more, which is astonishing since it's adveritised as good for 2.5. The keyboard was a little strange at first, but now that I'm used to it, my typing has become much faster and more accurate on it's smaller keys. I bought the copper brown, which is a nice, understated but interesting brown (it's almost the color of cola, or coffee with a sheen). My only real complaint is that the speakers are underneath the front bottom edge of the computer, so if you are using it as a laptop the sound is muffled. Oh, and also the screen has a fairly large plastic border... I'm sure there's some mechanical reason for that, but other computers this size have smaller borders with larger screens, and thus are the same total size. I mean, I bought the 8.9 because I wanted a smaller computer, not a smaller screen.
All in all this is a great little computer. Fits perfectly on those tiny college desks with room to spare, hasn't crashed once in the month I've had it, and it's faster by virtue of XP rather than Vista (I imagine it'll be even faster once I dump XP entirely and load up Linux). Another interesting note, I was sitting near a girl with a new Eee PC a couple days ago, and we started up at the same time. By the time hers was loaded and ready, I was already knee deep in note-taking and had three other programs open and running. Why, why Acer, did you have to discontinue this terrific little laptop?? Even my SO, who's a bloodthirsty Mac user, likes this computer.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1126 8.9-Inch Netbook - White.

Purchase ASUS EEEPC900-BK090X 8.9-Inch Netbook
I absolutely love the portability of the netbook. I can carry it in my purse! However, once I get to Starbucks and sit down to do something as simple as go on facebook, if I open more than one window it will take forever to load. Sometimes there are messages about the virtual memory that cause internet explorer to shut down. Order Acer Aspire One AO751h-1545 11.6-Inch Black Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life
I bought this lap-top for my most recent deployment to Afghanistan as a junk computer that I didn't care if it got destroyed. It lasted the whole 7 months, and still works great. When i first got it it did run a little slow, but I disabled every unneccesary little option that windows loves, and it ran noticeable faster immediately. I've had it about a year now, and still use it now that i'm back. Great for traveling, battery lasts when you know you won't be near power for a while. I velcroed a 500GB external to the case for movies, and it helped with the small HD. Overall great value!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AO751h-1545 11.6-Inch Black Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life.

Where To Buy ASUS Eee PC 1008HA Seashell 10.1-Inch Pearl Black Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life
The Asus EeePC 1008HA is a great, small, reasonably powerful computer for those who need to be on the road... and don't need something with extraordinary power.
Plusses:
- Small, lightweight, and extraordinarily practical
- Extraordinarily powerful machine given its size
Minuses:
- Touchpad failed only after one month on-the-road, requiring me to buy a mouse and then return the computer to get fixed;
- Battery does not last as long as it is billed (e.g., 3.5 hours rather than 6 hours)
All in all, I would buy one again, though be aware that because of its size it may be prone to some mechanical failures.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1008HA Seashell 10.1-Inch Pearl Black Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life.

I like it. It's not a bad little computer. I have my more expensive laptop at home and carry this one around school for notes. It does the basics just fine. The battery life is great too. I can type constantly for 3-4 hours and it doesn't need to be charged at all during that time. HP 2133-KX870AT 8.9-Inch Netbook - 6 Cell Battery
In the over one year since I have owned this netbook, there's some positives that still remain positives:
- the aluminum case is still the biggest plus for this. It's sturdy and doesn't have the cheap feel that some plastic models did.
- the hard drive is quiet and at 120gb, is more than enough storage for what I use this netbook for (writing)
- the screen resolution is excellent and provides a nice clear view of all icons and programs
Now for the not so good.
- battery life is dismal, maybe getting just under 2 hours. I was hoping for more and I'm sure the 6-cell battery provides a great deal longer run time, but the 3-cell battery this came with is nothing good for extended use
- the fan comes on every so often and has a way of making a loud noise. Restarting resets it and it's good for a while longer, but it's annoying sometimes.
- the power lacking VIA-7 processor can't play videos, even ones that have been downloaded locally to the hard drive. It's just not good for that. Good thing I mostly use this for writing, but as a short video creator, it would have been nice to at least have them on the netbook to play.
- the glossy screen smudges easily, but that's not as big an issue as the glare. Sitting with this unit and having a light or window behind you, it's a nicer mirror than it is an LCD screen.
I am considering selling this and upgrading to a model with an Intel ATOM N270 processor, which improves battery life as well as making it capable for doing things like video and audio. The HP 2140 keeps the expanded ports and aluminum case, as well as increases the screen size and processor capabilities.Get more detail about HP 2133-KX870AT 8.9-Inch Netbook - 6 Cell Battery.
Acer Aspire One AO751h-1885 11.6-Inch White Netbook - 8 Hour Battery Life Review
I really like this netbook. Its light and has the full resolution screen. I do find that I use a wireless mouse when I am doing Windows work. Its big enough to do real work on. The wifi works great and will latch on in most places. Make sure that you know about the slide switch on the lower left of the keyboard which turn on and off wifi. I find the screen nice, but would like a little more contrast at times. I have trouble seeing the vertical sliders of some windows apps. The battery really is 8 hours, and I don't take my charger with me on weekends--but I don't do videos.
I think its a home run. I will probably go for an iPad in a couple of months. I think its a step up, but of course at a significant uptick in price. I did opt for a Runcore SSD, which has made it a bit faster.

UMID mbook M1 8GB SSD 1.3 GHz Intel Atom Mini-Netbook Top Quality
I had the UMID M1 for a while (for a review) and was impressed. This is one of the fastest small-form-factor browsing and Skype video devices on the market. Perfect for running Tweetdeck and other web-based comm's software. Battery life is good at around 4 hours and touchscreen response also good.
The USB ports require an awkward dongle and the screen angle can be annoying as it doesn't open up as far as it should. The black version is also better than the white version in my opinion. Both in looks and quality. (I've tested both)
It doesn't quite fit in a pocket (cargo pants will be OK) but at under 350gm, its so light that you can take it anywhere. Video and built-in mic are reasonable quality and work well for Skype.
Note that the hardware supports HD720p video decoding but you need to install codecs for that to work properly. Also the 512MB memory can be a problem if you are running heavy applications. The fast SSD helps in this case but it's still a good idea to keep the number of running apps down to a minimum. Firefox with a few tabs, skype and tweetdeck should be no problem.Get more detail about UMID mbook M1 8GB SSD 1.3 GHz Intel Atom Mini-Netbook.
Mirus Educational Schoolmate Convertible 8.9" Tablet Netbook - Silver (TARCT9XP) This instant
I had been following the OLPC, Netbook, Classmate, Netablet movement with great interest, but hadn't pushed the buy button until I saw that the Intel Powered Convertible Classmate PC was available from Mirus/Target via Amazon. I bought this for the 3 year-old since he's always fighting with his sister over use of her laptop. First impression is that it's small (it's a netbook, not a laptop). Configuration didn't seem to complete correctly initially so the auto screen rotation didn't work until after a reboot. Everything seems to work ok, it's a very dense little package so it seems a little heavy for it's size. I think I would prefer Windows 7 with Ink, but I haven't really tried using the MyScript that comes preinstalled with XP Home. I think it will be really cool with the right software installed.
After playing with it for a week, it's still pretty cool, but the autorotate is a little buggy. Sometimes the autorotate seems to get stuck needs to be disabled and reset to normal orientation. The three year old dropped it on a hard floor and dented the stylus openning making it a tight fit, but it still works ok. Installed one CD rom game by copying to SD card, but need to find a good solution to have multiple CDROM games playable using ISO images.Get more detail about Mirus Educational Schoolmate Convertible 8.9" Tablet Netbook - Silver (TARCT9XP).

Samsung N120-13GBL 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 8.3 Hours of Battery Life Best Quality
I bought this for my wife to take to meetings and kid's activities. I am very impressed. Machine feels very solid- I don't think broken hinges will ever be a problem. I ordered a 2 gig memory strip at the same time and installed it before I ever turned the machine on, so I can't comment on it with 1 gig, but with 2 gig, it is plenty fast. Wireless is excellent! I am seeing more networks than with any other machine I have ever used. Built-in Bluetooth works great with my Sony Z750a phone. Netflix streams without a hitch. Even with 3 users logged on, reponse doesn't slow. BTW, the memory I ordered was Transcend 2GB JetRam DDR2 667 SO-DIMM for Laptops (MFG Part #: JM667QSU-2G).
Just a couple of minor quibbles- I wish the Start key was on the left side. A USB port closer to the rear on the sides or on the rear would be really nice. In the middle is a little awkward. Documentation about the Samsung Recovery software that runs at startup is lacking. When you first start the machine, XP installs from a hidden 6GB partition. Part of the process is partitioning the rest of the space for the installation. It uses the 2nd partiton (that will be drive D:) to save a recovery image of the PC so you can revert the machine. It was confusing and since it gives you the option of setting the space as you see fit and warns you this can only be run once (changing your partitions deletes the data. yes- there are programs that can do this without data loss, but they aren't included). I ended up going with a 40GB C: and 100GB D: (+/-). After install of a few necessary apps, I have about 30 GB free on C:. D: will be for movies for the kids, games, music, and the backups of the C: drive. I also use Hamachi and CrashPlan+ for data security, so the Samsung Recovery may never get used.
Overall, I think this machine is going to be perfect. Small, light, fast, cool running, screen is very good- but a few distracting glares at times but nowhere near as bad as almost all Glossy screens. The LED backlighting is very even, and contrast is great. If I could get by with the lower resolution, I'd consider getting one (My laptop is 1600x1200!) Highly recommended.Get more detail about Samsung N120-13GBL 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 8.3 Hours of Battery Life.

Acer AOD250-1517 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life Get it now!
My husband bought this netbook for me as I was having major back surgery and we thought it would be an easy way for me to keep my family and friends updated on my progress....wrong. We enrolled with a server, Clear, so that we could use the netbook away from home, as my surgery was not going to be in the same town we live in. After several attempts in getting the email up and running, the server representative felt there was something wrong with the Microsoft software on the netbook. We did have internet connection on the netbook. Then we contacted the Acer support service, and I spoke to several rather arrogant young Eastern Asian men who talked down to me nearly everytime I called them. We tried several things to get the Microsoft Outlook Express software to work, including uninstalling it and then re installing it. This did not work, and by this time we could not even get the netbook to come on. We were so frustrated. We were given the number of another service department "who have the smartest guys and they should be able to help you". There will be a charge for this though! I asked why there would be a charge when it was a new product and had never worked, and he went on to explain that Microsoft installs their software and if it doesn't work properly then Acer is not responsible for that! I paid $59.95 to talk to another young man for 30 minutes, and he kept insisting I should have my home server on the netbook and he used all but 4 minutes of my time on this. I was not very long post op by this time, and I was in pain and just didn't have the energy to mess with it anymore. If anyone knows how to get some action out of these people, let me know!!!I know Amazon doesn't deal with the service on computers but to me this reflects badly on them. The whole thing sounds like a scam, I buy the netbook and Oh dear the software doesn't work properly and Acer is not responsible for that, so now I have to pay to try and get it fixed!!!! Crazy.

HP Mini 110-1036NR 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 6.75 Hours of Battery Life Order Now
Be very careful in ordering this product. I have an HP desktop and have never had issues with it. This laptop was ordered as a Christmas present for my son to use in his high school class. It was fine from Dec. 25th until mid February. By this time, the 30 day Amazon return policy was over. The starboard had burned out in it. I spent DAYS on the phone with HP technical support, since the laptop is covered by a one-year warranty. Each time I called (about 6 all total, and the laptop still has not been fixed), I spent at least an hour on the phone. Every agent I spoke with gave me a different story, including that the HP service center in my area could not take care of this problem, since the laptop is considered a consumer product. They would not let their own service agent order the part to fix it. Now I am waiting for a box to send the laptop to HP for repair. I have very real concerns that I may never see it again. If I had this to do over again, I would have gone into a store to purchase it. Warranty is much longer there--usually 90 days.Get more detail about HP Mini 110-1036NR 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 6.75 Hours of Battery Life.

The MSi Wind Netbook U123-003 is one of the better MSi design model, and the quality has improved over the U100 model. Hardware annoyances: jumpy touchpad/mouse, MIC does not work (..no rsolution on that), etc. Overall though, it is a good versitale Netbook for basic use.

Save Dell Inspiron iM1012-799CRD Mini 1012 10.1-Inch Netbook (Cherry Red)
I was after a new netbook (owned an EEE 701)and thought I would go with the Dell this time around.
I found the Dell the most attractive package in early 2010 for the follwoing reasons:
1. comes with the new Atom 450 (should be a little more nergy efficient)
2. the 6-cell battery gives me more air time than the 3-cells batteries in so many other netbooks.
3. the keyboard is a pleasure to type on quickly.
4. the case is not only pretty but sturdy. No noticable flexing of any kind under pressure.
5. the screen is nice, colors vibrant.
6. touchpad is of a nice and usable size.
I've been using the Mini now for a couple of days and I'm not disappointed. I use it for light web surfing, emails, and typing (the classic core apps of a netbook). In addition, I use it for streaming music under my Zune subscription.
My expectations are met. Windows Starter only seems a bit of a bottleneck in terms of included (or lacking) features compared to Home or Professional. I couldn't figure out how to back up the Mini via a mapped network drive and as it stands, it must be a missing (or blocked) feature due to Windows 7 Starter Edition. Upgrading seems the better choice if one really wants to use the Mini for sharing and streaming at home.

Discount Dell Inspiron iM1012-799IBU Mini 1012 10.1-Inch Netbook (Ice Blue)

Cheapest ASUS Eee PC 1008HA Seashell 10.1-Inch Pearl White Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life
The Asus EeePC 1008HA is a great, small, reasonably powerful computer for those who need to be on the road... and don't need something with extraordinary power.
Plusses:
- Small, lightweight, and extraordinarily practical
- Extraordinarily powerful machine given its size
Minuses:
- Touchpad failed only after one month on-the-road, requiring me to buy a mouse and then return the computer to get fixed;
- Battery does not last as long as it is billed (e.g., 3.5 hours rather than 6 hours)
All in all, I would buy one again, though be aware that because of its size it may be prone to some mechanical failures.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC 1008HA Seashell 10.1-Inch Pearl White Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life.

Buy Samsung N130-13P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - Up to 6.2 Hours of Battery Life
No professional review from me even though I appreciate them very much.I am very pleased with this netbook! Very nice looking matte exterior, built in router, comes with one year trial of office 2007, webcam, bought it about a month ago and I just love it. The keyboard may be an issue for some, I can live with it but some may have a problem with it and the battery, well, not quite 6 hours, quite a bit less, maybe I need to figure out how to tweak things to conserve the battery a bit. But great colors, viewing, I stream without much problem for the first time, and while this isnt important the netbook comes with what I call its own little lullaby, it literally sings itself to sleep :)! For the price I say go for it, it's a bargain!Get more detail about Samsung N130-13P 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - Up to 6.2 Hours of Battery Life.
Purchase Samsung GO N310-13GMB 10.1-Inch Mint Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life
so i just recieved my Samsung Go in the turquoise blue and i absolutely LOVE IT!!! i've been using mac for aslong as i can remeber soo its taking a bit to get used to PC ..but for a teen who uses comps mostly for web browsing ,papers and camera fun its seems to hold out great so far ...I've reseached a few companies and mostly all netbooks are quite similar so i chose the Go because of its battery life chicklet keyboard and kik ass design ... yea the samsung logo is a bit obnoxious but its not that bad especially if u add ur own touch of stickers.
my cons are
the speakers truly suck (but u could hook up external speakers n head phones)
the font is crazy small n i wear glasses so thats a pain (im pretty sure u could fix that in settings )
n thats it so far yea it was almost 470 but its worth it if you like to stand out and cant stand the glossy-ness of all the other netbooks this baby is for you =DGet more detail about Samsung GO N310-13GMB 10.1-Inch Mint Blue Netbook - 9 Hour Battery Life.

Order ASUS 1000HD-BKBB1 Netbook with Windows XP, 120GB HDD
The netbook itself is an excellent product, it represents the quality that asus eee computers can bring. Before I tell you the postivies im gonna mention real quick the negatives and what you should be aware when you purchase this particular refurbished model. The laptop comes with a 4 cell battery which means that it at max lasts 3 and half hours which is kind of bad, and second thing to be aware about is that it has the celeron M processor which means that it it is not an atom concluding that it requires, and gets super hot. The processor is an old model of the ASUS netbooks lineup so what is going to happen the battery is gonna get sucked by the processor. So dont get scared if the laptop is boiling hot in your lap just make sure you dont leave it on like i do lol.
Now the positives, the laptop has an excellent viewing screen, people love it I know 5 people that are gonna buy asus eee now, the touchpad is graet, but the clicking buttons are insanely tough to press, the keyboard itself is great for netbooks. The color is sleek black with a nice glossy feeeling. People complain that it will get fingerprints but that is not necessarily true because i use it everyday and i dont see my figner prints.
Sice it is refuirbished it is going to come with a 3 month warranty directly from asus so dont worry about that, and it u notice any defects please dont keep it.
Thank you guys, grear purchase nice netbook, wish you luck.Get more detail about ASUS 1000HD-BKBB1 Netbook with Windows XP, 120GB HDD.
Where To Buy Dell Mini 9 Inspiron 910 Laptop Notebook (Black) - Intel® Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR2, 8GB HD, 8.9" WSVGA, Integrated Webcam, Windows XP Home
I LOVED my Dell Mini and I used it every day until that dreaded error message. I took very good care of my mini and then the warranty expired a week before my Dell 910 stopped working at the airport. DELL support would not help me because my warranty expired even though I bought the extended warranty through QVC. I am going to throw it away because for the price of a new hard drive and power cord I can by a new netbook with impressive battery life. I paid a ridiculous amount of money for this when it came out $500+ and now they are considerably cheaper. I would never buy another DELL. Good luck to you if you decide to get one - maybe you will have better luck than I did.Get more detail about Dell Mini 9 Inspiron 910 Laptop Notebook (Black) - Intel® Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR2, 8GB HD, 8.9" WSVGA, Integrated Webcam, Windows XP Home.

Shop For Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home) Black
I had an HP ZD8000 laptop that I suffered through for 3 Years. It was everything the Lenovo isn't. The HP was big, Heavy, noisy, hot to the touch, hard on the eyes, and unreliable. After the HP developed the "jailhouse bars" vertical lines on it's display and HP customer service blew it off, it was time to look for something better. Firstly NO HP PRODUCT, EVER.
The Lenovo came the closest to what I wanted. The 10 inch display is more usable than the dim fuzzy 17 incher on the HP. The keyboard is very comfortable for long sessions.
The S10 weighs in around 3 pounds. The 3 cell battery handles my portable needs. For the semifixed needs a Targus AC/DC/car power converter does the trick. The Targus powers it in the car, where I mate the S10 with a Delorme USB GPS receiver and navigate with Street Atlas.
My main use is genealogy. The S10 runs all the programs just fine. The Master Genealogist requires setting the display for more pixels than it has and bumping up and down with the cursor.
Scanning is with a Canon LIDE 35 (replaced by LIDE 100) which weighs 3.5 lbs and is a little bigger than the S10. It powers over the USB. It scans pictures and documents. It lives in the bag with the S10.
Printing is with an ancient Canon BJC-80. It is small enough to take along, when needed.
Windows XP is a real plus. I fought with Vista on my wife's new Toshiba laptop. Windows 7 will no doubt be worse. XP rules!
Broadband connection is by an ATT Ultra Express modem. A USB modem would probably be the way to go today.
I have used the S10 for close to 2 years. The new smart books might replace it. The S10 and a cell phone are more user friendly.
The S10 and scanner take up less room and weigh less than the HP 17 inch by itself. It goes everywhere. A real portable office.
The only improvement that would make the S10 better is lower cost. It is already a bargain.Get more detail about Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home) Black.
MSI U230-033US 12.1-Inch Netbook - 4 Hour Battery Life
I'd never heard of MSi - before browsing online for a laptop a couple months ago, but must say I am very impressed with the quality of this little laptop! It's nicer than the $1500 Dell I use at the office.
At 12", this computer was the perfect size for me. I was underwhelmed by the traditional 10" netbooks when I tried them out at a local retailer - screen was too small for me, and I didn't care for the cramped keyboard. Nor the Windows 7 starter edition or slow CPU.
Enter the MSi U230 - I've got the single core AMD Neo MV-40, but rarely ever notice any slow down. I would have spent the additional $50 for the dual core version, but it wasn't released yet when I bought my computer (it's still hard to find from most online retailers!).
Pros:
-Faster CPU compared to traditional netbooks with Intel Atom chip
-Windows 7 Home Premium (runs fast)
-2 gb Ram, upgradeable to 4 gb (I did this on a whim, wasn't really necessary as Ram doesn't max out at 2 gb most of the time)
-Full sized keyboard makes typing easy with little frustration
-1366x768 resolution, lots of space for desktop icons, web browsing, watching videos
-SD card slot, webcam, 3 usb connectors
-ultraportable size and weight (but you don't get a cd/dvd drive - I suggest picking up an external one)
Cons:
-4 hour battery life as advertised is a stretch
-Won't perform as well as larger, dual core CPUs notebooks
In reference to battery life, it's advertised as 4 hours but I've found around 3 hours is more realistic. However, you can undervolt the CPU by about 20%, without losing any performance. I get stable performance at 0.85v at 8x and 0.70v at 4x using RMClock. Doing so I've stretched the battery life to over 4 hours with light computer tasks (running spreadsheets, web browsing, etc.).
Overall I highly recommend this laptop, especially if you are just looking for a laptop to compliment a desktop system, and aren't happy with traditional netbooks.Get more detail about MSI U230-033US 12.1-Inch Netbook - 4 Hour Battery Life.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review
This is a wonderful netbook. I bought this cause I needed to do work when I am stuck at school and didn't want to drive back home waste gas. It does everything I need it to: surf the web, write documents, email, and it's portable. I use this laptop as a means to do work at school since I didn't want to buy a regular laptop. I already have a desktop at home, so I use this netbook as a means of doing SMALL AMOUNTS of works while at school.
Because it's a netbook I know not to expect it to work like a Macbook or any other fast-pace, high-capacity laptop. It's not meant for that type of functionality.
Bottom line: This is an awesome laptop if you are looking for something to do your work at a coffee shop like read and write documents and emailing.
It is not for those of you who tend to have more than 3+ programs running. Here's a quick analogy: netbooks are like little kids, if you ask them to carry an item for you they will only probably carry one or two items no more than 5 pounds. Regular laptops are adults who can carry about 5+ items about 50 pounds (depending on the adult) and not have a problem.
The processor (Intel Atom) on this netbook will not match up to regular processors like Core 2 Duos.
Do not buy this laptop if it's going to be your ONLY laptop. Buy it for convenience and portability.Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).
Samsung NC10-11GP 10.2-Inch Pink Netbook - 6 Cell Battery Top Quality
I got this almost a year ago, use it only on my home wireless network, and have had no real problems. A few minor issues were resolved by googling, reading the forums at [...], and just getting reacquainted with my router. From others' experiences, I guess I'm lucky not to need Samsung support.Get more detail about Samsung NC10-11GP 10.2-Inch Pink Netbook - 6 Cell Battery.

Dell Inspiron iM1012-1243IBU Mini 1012 10.1-Inch Netbook with Digital TV (Ice Blue) Immediately
I got this to try and use traveling and at our office. Able to configue our VPN to work seamlessly without any software upgrade - just Windows 7 starter as shipped. Keyboard is easy to type on - larger than some other netbooks. It does need Office - Home or Pro for business use - I wish Amazon had that available as a bundled (discounted) price at purchase. The TV tuner worked perfectly out of the box. This has the faster Atom processor which is noticably better than the Atom 270. I priced this model thru Dell website and is much less expensive thru Amazon for same configuration.
A great purchase for portable computing, and the TV will be a real plus when stuck with flight delays at the airport(s).Get more detail about Dell Inspiron iM1012-1243IBU Mini 1012 10.1-Inch Netbook with Digital TV (Ice Blue).

Hercules eCafe EC-1000W 10.1-Inch Netbook - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life Best Quality
I've had the opportunity to try notebooks before and have been unhappy with the little screen, little keyboard, and "cheap" toy feel. However, when given the chance to review the eCafe, I jumped on it. I'm a Mac user, but sometimes need a PC for work. That's where this comes in really handy.
The main reason I've needed a PC was so that I could do some remote work which required a PC. I'm happy to report that this netbook works great for that. Recently, a friend needed to use his printer at my house and we made it work most easily by using this PC. I've taken this PC to a couple of trade shows and it was all I needed. It is smaller and a little lighter than my 13" macbook and I was able to slip it into a little messenger bag. I have not tried to use it for heavy computing...just emails and web surfing. But, as an FYI, it doesn't meet the specs for online games such as World of Warcraft.
I had a little trouble getting the battery in correctly, but after a couple of tries, it is now working fine. I think the blue design with the bamboo is cute and the keyboard is a little better than other netbooks that I've tried. The netbook is about 10.75 inches wide by 7.5 and the screen is about 8.75 by 5 inches which is 10" on the diagonal. I haven't tried this one out yet, but I've also found netbooks great to take as a computer to show a presentation on when you have to bring your own projector and laptop.
I'm giving this 5 stars, because I think it is a good netbook. I'm not giving it 5 stars as a full powered computer. So for when you need a little PC, but not a lot of PC, the eCafe may be the machine for you.

Gateway LT2021u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 3 Hour Battery Life Buy Now
Got my little notebook for Christmas, thanks kids, and got to use it for several weeks before the problem started. I was getting power surge notices which was corrupting my work, meaning I has to stop and fix the message and restart thus loosing online work.
Three weeks of online help with numerous 'fixes' from simple bios reload to a complete system restore.
Kept telling them it was a motherboard issue. So they finally agreed to take it in to repair facility and I had to pay for shipping. Two more weeks, it is now March 5th, got the computer back yesterday and it still gives me an error message! Called again, number ? I forget how many times, send it back and we will definitely fix it this time. So now I will again be with out my computer for another two and a half weeks while they try to fix it again.Get more detail about Gateway LT2021u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 3 Hour Battery Life.

Samsung N140-14B 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - Up to 7.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Decide Now
Ordered this netbook because of great independent reviews.
This product worked great. Easy. Relatively fast compared to other netbooks.
Unfortunately, I had to return it.
It is because of the built-in LCD screen of 1024x600 limitation.
I was unable to see the full screen during remote desktop applications, regardless of attempts to scroll down.
It was not able to adjust to the screen size of the host computer.
I believe this is the same limitation for any netbook regardless of brand that has a 10.1" screen.
Too bad.Get more detail about Samsung N140-14B 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - Up to 7.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).
ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-MU17-PI 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 8.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Right now
I got this Netbook on Monday from Amazon and from the time I opened the box the poor thing has been in constant use.
I bought this to replace my extra heavy Laptop which i got fed-up of carrying around.
This Netbook is small, light and extremely portable.
I use it all day at school and the battery life is really good (way better than my laptop that gives me 15 minutes of battery power)
Its Wi-Fi connectivity is excellent.
The screen size is good and the keyboard is nice and sturdy.
Setup is a breeze even a kid can do it
It comes with crappy Windows 7 Starter but I upgraded it to Windows 7 Home Premium the same day i got it.
I have customized the setting to my taste and it works really good.
It is a great addition to your PC arsenal if you need something nice and portable.
I am loving my brand new asset, it is a depreciating asset but an asset nevertheless.
But I have only had it for four days, so lets see if this review stays positive ;-)Get more detail about ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA-MU17-PI 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 8.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter).
